December 2014 – Powercast releases a New Module

Powercast announces the release of the P2110B module.  The P2110B module is a drop in replacement for the P2110 module (now obsolete).  The P2110B increases RF to DC conversion efficiency by up to ten percent.

Lifetime Power®

Powercast’s Lifetime Power technology enables products to last up to 25 years on a pre-installed battery. Leveraging patented power management designs, Powercast works with its partners to enable lifetime products with or without energy harvesting.
Whether it is multiple years on a single coin cell or 25 years on a AA battery, Powercast technology can differentiate your product by eliminating batteries or battery maintenance yielding lifetime devices.

Powering the Internet of Things

Whether you are a company that has been around for 100 years or a new company, navigating the Internet of Things is not an ‘if’ but a ‘how’. Are you looking to embed capabilities in previously unconnected products or enable new ideas? Powercast can help bring you power where you most need it – to your product.

Long-life products utilizing:

  • Wireless Power
  • Lifetime Batteries
  • Unique Power Management

New Multi-band Wireless Power Evaluation Board

Powercast releases a new multi-band evaluation board!

The P21XXCSR-EVB is an evaluation board featuring the PCC110 and PCC210 chips with support for six frequency bands to test and develop with the Powerharvester Chipset Reference Design. The P21XXCSR-EVB converts radio frequency (RF) energy into DC power and stores it in a capacitor to provide an intermittent, regulated output voltage.

Frequency bands supported:

  • GSM-850 uplink
  • 868MHz Europe & GSM-850 downlink
  • 915MHz USA & GSM-900 uplink
  • GSM-1800 uplink
  • GSM-1900 uplink
  • WiFi 2.4GHz

UHF RFID Sensing, Passive RFID Wireless Sensor Tags

Powercast’s RF Energy Harvesting technology enables high-function (high-power) RFID tags. Standard tags have limited function or require a battery for higher-power functions such as sensing, data logging, displays, biometric authentication, visual and audible indicators, etc.

Powercast’s technology uses the same RFID reader infrastructure to capture additional power and eliminate the need for batteries. Battery-less, passive tags are the only practical way to scale deployment for high-function RFID tags.

Example
Using a UHF RFID reader, Powercast’s RF harvesting circuit can be used to power a microcontroller (MCU) and additional sensors (strain, vibration, etc). The MCU can communicate to NXP’s UCODE RFID chip via the I2C interface, and the tag ID and data can be read through the RFID reader. The result: One infrastructure for communications and power, no batteries, reliable operation.
